No fewer than four persons were killed, 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal motor accident that occurred on Sunday, December 14 along Lokoja-Ajaokuta Road in Kogi State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kogi State Sector Commander, Mr. Tenimu Etuku, disclosed this to journalists on Monday in Lokoja.
According to Etuku, the accident involved an 18-seater commercial bus, occurred at Jimgbe Community in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of the state.
He said FRSC personnel promptly rescued the injured victims, rushed them to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for medical treatment, while the corpses of the four deceased persons were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
Giving further details, the sector commander explained that the bus, with Abuja registration number ABC 232 XA, was travelling from Enugu to Abuja when the crash occurred.
“The driver, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming truck, rammed into a faulty truck that was stationary on the road”, Etuku said.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, he cautioned motorists to remain vigilant at all times, noting that a road may appear free, however, not necessarily safe.
“There is a huge difference between a free motoring environment and a safe motoring environment. Drivers must always be on alert while driving on the highways”, he advised.
