The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has provided clarity on reports surrounding the diversion of one of its C-130 aircraft to Burkina Faso.
It stated that the decision was a precautionary safety measure in full compliance with international aviation standards.
According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the aircraft, on a ferry mission to Portugal, made a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, after the crew detected a technical concern shortly after takeoff from Lagos December 8, 2025.
NAF confirmed that all personnel onboard are safe and are receiving cordial treatment from Burkinabe authorities.

Ejodame noted that plans are already underway to resume the mission as scheduled, reaffirming the Air Force’s unwavering commitment to strict operational procedures and global safety standards.
The clarification comes after Burkinabe state media earlier reported that the aircraft, carrying 11 soldiers, was forced to land due to an alleged airspace violation.
NAF has, however, assured the public that the diversion was strictly a safety procedure and that its operations remain professional and fully compliant with international aviation protocols.
