Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has ruled out resigning despite mounting pressure over the club’s poor Premier League performances and its slide into the relegation zone.

Carrick made his position clear after United staged a dramatic comeback to secure a 4-4 draw against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The result left United in 18th position, with eight points from 10 league matches, intensifying concerns over the team’s disappointing start to the season.

United twice recovered from two-goal deficits, with Joshua Zirkzee and Patrick Dorgu scoring during second-half stoppage time to rescue a point.

Aston Villa had taken an early 2-0 lead through Alysson and Nicolas Jackson before Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans brought United level before halftime.

However, goals from John McGinn and Leon Goretzka restored Villa’s two-goal advantage in the second half.

Zirkzee reduced the deficit in the 92nd minute before Dorgu headed home a dramatic equaliser four minutes later.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Carrick acknowledged that United had failed to win enough matches but insisted he remained determined to improve the team’s performances.

The former United midfielder said the squad had demonstrated positive qualities against Villa, although defensive mistakes continued to undermine its efforts.

Asked whether he would consider resigning in the club’s interests, Carrick responded: “That’s not going to happen.”

He maintained that he understood the direction United needed to take and remained focused on securing better results.

Carrick also dismissed suggestions that he needed to initiate discussions with the club’s hierarchy about his future.

The 45-year-old admitted he was unhappy with United’s league position but expressed confidence that the situation could improve.

United have struggled defensively throughout the campaign, with individual errors again contributing to the goals conceded against Aston Villa.

Despite the late comeback, the club remains without a Premier League victory since August.

The manager said the forthcoming international break would provide an opportunity to review performances, address weaknesses and prepare for the next fixture.

Manchester United are scheduled to return to Premier League action on November 22 against rivals Liverpool.

Carrick’s refusal to resign does not rule out a decision by the club’s management concerning his future.

For now, he remains focused on reversing United’s poor results and guiding the team away from the relegation places.
