Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has condemned reported attacks involving African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore in Ekiti State and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State.

Atiku, in a statement posted on X on Saturday, described the incidents as troubling and unacceptable, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to intimidate political opponents ahead of the 2027 general election.

He called for immediate and transparent investigations, warning that political violence and intimidation could undermine public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

The former Vice-President also expressed concern over reports of missing social media influencers and alleged harassment of opposition supporters.

His comments followed an incident involving Sowore and members of his team at a restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti on Friday.

Sowore alleged that he and his associates were attacked by individuals acting on behalf of political interests.

However, the Ekiti State Police Command disputed his account, describing the incident as an altercation involving unidentified individuals.

Police spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, said officers responded to a distress report, intervened and took those affected for medical attention.

The command subsequently confirmed that Sowore and other affected persons had been treated and discharged.

In a further development on Saturday, police announced the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the incident, adding that investigations were continuing.

Meanwhile, in Sokoto State, ADC governorship candidate Manir Muhammad Dan’iya alleged that suspected APC supporters disrupted a political procession involving women and youths.

He claimed that several participants sustained injuries, vehicles were damaged, and personal belongings were stolen during the confrontation.

The Sokoto State Police Command acknowledged receiving reports of the incident and said investigations had commenced.

APC representatives in the state denied allegations that the ruling party was responsible.

Atiku urged security agencies to investigate the incidents impartially and ensure that anyone found responsible faced appropriate legal consequences.

He also called on the Federal Government to protect political freedoms and guarantee equal opportunities for opposition parties to conduct legitimate activities.

The former Vice-President maintained that Nigerians must be allowed to participate freely in the electoral process without intimidation.

Although the reported incidents have prompted political reactions, allegations of sponsorship and responsibility have not been independently established.
