The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) has called on operators in Nigeria’s cooking gas industry to prioritise safety, regulatory compliance and digital technology to improve efficiency and ensure sustainable growth.
The association made the call during its 2026 webinar, themed “Downstream LPG Operational Excellence and Compliance,” which brought together industry stakeholders to discuss operational challenges, safety risks and regulatory requirements.
Speaking at the event, NALPGAM National President, Edu Inyang, stressed that expanding gas supply alone would not guarantee the industry’s long-term success.
He emphasised the need for continuous safety practices, responsible operations and improved industry standards.
As part of efforts to strengthen the sector, participants agreed to develop a NALPGAM Standard of Operational Excellence focusing on facility maintenance, operator competence, regulatory compliance and customer protection.

The association warned against unsafe practices, including illegal gas decanting and unauthorised propane blending, which could endanger workers, consumers and surrounding communities.
Inyang urged operators to regard compliance as a business advantage rather than merely a regulatory obligation, noting that properly managed facilities could reduce accidents, protect investments and strengthen public confidence.
The webinar also highlighted the importance of digitalisation in reducing operational losses and improving accountability.
Recommended technologies included smart gas-filling systems, automated tank gauges, load cells, flow meters and vehicle-tracking systems.

NALPGAM maintained that adopting modern technologies alongside stronger safety standards would improve transparency, reduce product losses and support the sustainable development of Nigeria’s LPG industry.
