The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned Nigerians against accepting parcels from others for delivery after intercepting illicit drugs concealed in a keg of palm oil destined for Saudi Arabia.

The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the incident in a post on X, explaining that the package had been given to a woman travelling to Saudi Arabia.

According to Babafemi, NDLEA operatives intercepted the woman at an airport and discovered substances wrapped in polythene inside the keg.

He warned that unsuspecting travellers could face severe legal consequences if found carrying prohibited substances across international borders.

Babafemi urged Nigerians to reject requests to transport packages whose contents they cannot independently verify, regardless of their relationship with the sender.

He stressed that protecting one’s freedom and safety should take priority over the fear of offending friends, relatives or acquaintances.

The agency reiterated its commitment to preventing drug trafficking and protecting unsuspecting travellers from exploitation by criminal networks.
