The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has urged party leaders, spokespersons and supporters to treat former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar with respect despite ongoing political disagreements.
The council appealed in a statement attributed to its spokesperson, Dele Alake, following controversy over Atiku’s reported decision to refer to President Bola Tinubu simply as “Bola.”
According to the statement, the council considered the manner of address disrespectful to the office of the President but maintained that political differences should not prevent its members from extending appropriate courtesies to the former vice-president.
The council urged APC officials, campaign representatives and support groups to recognise Atiku’s status as a former vice-president and presidential candidate, regardless of their disagreements with his political statements.

It also accused Atiku of allowing political rivalry to influence his public conduct, particularly following the 2023 presidential election.
The allegations represent the council’s position and do not establish Atiku’s intentions.
Despite its criticism, the council said it would encourage its members to maintain civility and avoid personal attacks in political engagements.
It further stated that its campaign activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election would concentrate on national issues, government policies and the performance of the Tinubu administration.
The council said it intended to present the administration’s economic reforms and development programmes to Nigerians while responding to criticisms from opposition figures.

The statement comes amid continuing political exchanges between the ruling party and opposition politicians as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather attention.
