Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) following his departure from the national team’s training camp in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The federation confirmed on Saturday that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against the 41-year-old forward over the incident, which followed a disagreement with national team coach Jorge Jesus.

According to the FPF’s Disciplinary Council, the decision to open proceedings was taken on October 9 after information concerning the incident was formally submitted on October 7.

The council imposed a provisional suspension on Ronaldo and classified the investigation as urgent.

The matter was referred to the federation’s Disciplinary Investigation Commission on October 10, with details of the proceedings to remain confidential until the investigation is completed.

Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp on September 30, ahead of the team’s UEFA Nations League encounter with Denmark.

His departure followed a disagreement over his playing role after he remained an unused substitute during Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway on September 27.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner subsequently accused Jesus of failing to honour an understanding concerning his participation in the national team.

Ronaldo said he had been instructed to warm up during the Norway match but was ultimately not introduced.

He later apologised to supporters and teammates for his conduct, acknowledging that his actions had consequences.

The veteran forward also indicated that he was prepared to accept disciplinary measures imposed by the federation and remained committed to representing Portugal.

The suspension is provisional and does not constitute a final disciplinary punishment.

The FPF has not announced how long the suspension will remain in effect or when the investigation will conclude.

Ronaldo’s availability for Portugal’s forthcoming international fixtures will depend on the outcome of the disciplinary process and any subsequent decision by the federation.
