The Akwa Ibom State Head of Civil Service, Mrs Elsie Peters, has directed the immediate commencement of the 2026 promotion exercise for eligible junior and senior staff of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
The directive followed a meeting with the institution’s management team, led by the Acting Rector, Dr Akanimo Jonah, to address delays in staff promotions and ensure that qualified employees receive their career advancement within the appropriate period.
Peters emphasised that promotion exercises must be concluded within the year they are due, in accordance with a new circular issued by the state government.

She explained that the directive was intended to prevent unnecessary delays in career progression and enable eligible public servants to assume their new ranks as scheduled.
The Head of Civil Service reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving staff welfare, strengthening institutional efficiency and addressing administrative challenges affecting career development across the public service.
Responding, the Acting Rector, Dr Akanimo Jonah, expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno and the Head of Civil Service for their intervention.
Jonah described the directive as an important development for the institution, noting that timely promotions would improve staff morale, encourage productivity and strengthen commitment to duty.
He assured the state government that the polytechnic management would take the necessary steps to ensure the promotion exercise was conducted smoothly and in accordance with established procedures.

The Acting Rector was accompanied by the Acting Registrar, Mr Godswill Udofah; the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr Mercy Ukpanah; Mrs Etido Etuk, representing the Bursar; and the Deputy Registrar (Establishment), Mr Michael Etim.
The directive is expected to address outstanding promotion concerns among eligible employees and reinforce the state government’s policy of ensuring timely career progression within public institutions.
