Former England internationals Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards have backed Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
The trio backed the England captain while discussing the leading contenders for football’s prestigious individual award.

Shearer pointed to Kane’s extraordinary goalscoring record, arguing that the striker’s consistency across the season makes him deserving of the honour.
Lineker also backed Kane following an exceptional campaign for club and country, while Richards chose the Bayern forward ahead of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.
Richards acknowledged Yamal’s impressive performances but argued that Kane had maintained a higher level of consistency, including during England’s World Cup campaign.
Kane is among the 30 players shortlisted for the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or after a prolific season with Bayern and England.
The England captain scored 73 goals in 65 club and international appearances during the relevant season, including 36 Bundesliga goals, and won the European Golden Shoe. He also scored six times at the World Cup as England finished third.

Kane faces competition from several leading players, including Barcelona winger Yamal, as voting determines the eventual winner.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for October 26 in London, marking the first time the event will be staged outside Paris.
