Two people have died in separate incidents involving alleged arson and stabbing in Jigawa State, with police arresting two suspects in connection with the cases.
The Jigawa State Police Command said the incidents occurred in Gwaram and Dutse Local Government Areas.
Police spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam said the first incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on September 29 when 27-year-old Abbas Ibrahim allegedly entered the residence of his elder brother, Basiru Shuaibu, 25, in Nassarawa village, Gwaram LGA.

Police alleged that Ibrahim poured petrol inside his brother’s room and set it ablaze.
Basiru and his wife sustained serious burns and were taken by relatives for treatment. Basiru later died from his injuries, while the condition of his wife was not immediately disclosed.
Police subsequently arrested Ibrahim in Sara town, Gwaram LGA. The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for investigation, and police said the suspect had been arraigned in court.
In a separate incident, police said 20-year-old Lawisi Safiyanu allegedly stabbed Muhammad Abba, 25, following a disagreement over an outstanding ₦500 payment in Chamo village, Dutse LGA, on October 1.
According to the police account, Abba had bought a mobile phone from Safiyanu for ₦1,500 and paid ₦1,000, leaving a balance of ₦500.
An argument allegedly broke out over the outstanding payment, during which Safiyanu was accused of stabbing Abba.
The victim was taken to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Police said Safiyanu was arrested and an exhibit connected with the incident was recovered. The command added that its investigation had been completed and the suspect charged to court.
Jigawa State Commissioner of Police Tijjani Murtala urged residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands and report disputes, threats and suspicious activities to security agencies.
The allegations against the suspects remain subject to determination by the courts.
