The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that nationwide collection of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards will begin on Friday, October 9, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said the exercise would enable eligible voters who participated in the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise to collect their cards ahead of the polls.

More than 10.7 million new registrations were recorded during the three phases of the recent voter registration exercise, although the entries remain subject to biometric verification.

Amupitan has directed electoral officials to address bottlenecks that could make it difficult for eligible Nigerians to collect their PVCs, particularly at the local government level.

The commission is also strengthening its technological systems ahead of the elections, including voter verification, result transmission and other result-management processes.

INEC said preparations are being structured around what it describes as a “zero-failure” approach to election logistics, covering the deployment and movement of electoral materials, security coordination and training of ad hoc personnel.

Amupitan has also stressed that electoral officials must remain neutral and professional, warning against partisan conduct or administrative failures capable of undermining public confidence in the electoral process.

The commission has similarly urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and respect the rights of rival parties to campaign and hold political events without disruption.

INEC said the PVC collection exercise forms part of broader preparations to ensure eligible Nigerians are able to participate in the 2027 general elections.
