Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI have killed 16 suspected terrorists and recovered weapons during coordinated operations in Adamawa State, the military has said.

The operations, conducted between September 30 and October 1, covered the Boima general area of Gombi Local Government Area and other locations within Sector 4 of the operation’s area of responsibility.

Acting Military Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Mohammed Goni, said troops ambushed a terrorist hideout in Boima, killing 16 suspected fighters.

Following the operation, troops searched the area and recovered three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines and a belt of pump-action cartridges, according to the military.

The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also conducted an air strike after an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform detected a group of suspected terrorists gathered with about 15 motorcycles under a tree canopy in Sector 4.

The military said the location was targeted at about 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, and that a subsequent assessment indicated the target had been destroyed. It added that some suspected fighters who survived the operation fled the area.

In separate developments, troops repelled coordinated attacks on military positions at the 226 Battalion in Garkida and the 232 Battalion in Garaha.

According to the military, the attackers withdrew after troops responded to the assaults.

Three soldiers were killed during the fighting, while other personnel who sustained injuries were evacuated for medical treatment and were reported to be in stable condition.

The Theatre Command said follow-up operations were continuing across the affected areas as troops sought to prevent further attacks and restrict the movement of armed groups.

It said the operations reflected continued coordination between ground troops and air assets in ongoing counterterrorism operations across the North-East.

The military urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information about suspicious activities in their communities.
