Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged party leaders and members to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Amaechi spoke on Wednesday at the ADC National Women League Conference in Abuja, where he called on members to return to their states and wards and mobilise voters.
He said the party would require strong grassroots organisation to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the election.
Amaechi warned that some opposition leaders could lose their political relevance if President Bola Tinubu secured another term.
“The crop of leaders you see here, if APC wins the 2027 elections, we are retired from politics. So, if you don’t want us to retire from politics, we must go home,” he said.
The former Minister of Transportation recalled the APC’s campaign ahead of the 2015 presidential election, highlighting the role women played in grassroots mobilisation when the party defeated the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Amaechi urged ADC supporters to strengthen the party’s presence at ward and polling-unit levels across the country.
He also called for increased participation by women, particularly in northern Nigeria, as the party expands its mobilisation efforts ahead of the election.
Amaechi further criticised the country’s current economic conditions, attributing rising living costs and other economic challenges to the Tinubu administration.
Also speaking at the conference, Hajiya Titi Atiku Abubakar urged women to participate actively in the party’s grassroots campaign.
She called on supporters to engage friends, neighbours and communities while encouraging women not to allow financial or material inducements to determine their electoral choices.
The conference formed part of the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, with the party also launching a women-led grassroots initiative aimed at expanding voter engagement across wards and polling units nationwide.
