At least 14 people, including two senior military officers, have been killed in a plane crash in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to the country’s armed forces.
The senior officers were identified as Lieutenant General Mutombo Katalayi Tiende, head of the military court, and Lieutenant General Bakumi Likulia, auditor general of the armed forces.
Military spokesman Major General Efomi Ekenge said 12 other members of the delegation and crew also died, with no survivors reported.
The aircraft was returning to Kinshasa from Kikwit in southwestern DR Congo when it crashed near Kenge.
Local officials said the aircraft had reportedly developed a technical problem before the crash, although authorities have yet to establish the cause.
An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Tryphon Kin-Kiey Mulumba, chairman of the Board of the Civil Aviation Authority, said the cause remained unknown pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities have yet to release further details about the aircraft or the nature of the reported technical problem.
