Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, has urged residents to participate actively in the 2027 general elections and vote for APC candidates.
Hamzat made the call on Tuesday when members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, led by the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, visited his campaign office in Ikeja.
The deputy governor expressed concern over what he described as low voter turnout in previous elections, noting that although about 6.2 million residents were registered to vote in Lagos during the last election, only about 1.2 million eventually participated.
He urged APC members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and communicate what he described as the achievements of the current administration to voters.
Hamzat said the APC-led administration had taken steps to strengthen economic stability and uphold the rule of law.
Also speaking, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said the visit reflected the commitment of COWLSO members to the party and their support for its candidates.
Ojelabi said continued grassroots engagement and party unity would be important ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also pointed to infrastructure, education and economic development as areas where he said the APC-led government had recorded achievements.
The APC deputy governorship candidate in Lagos State, Damilola Sonayon-James, described the visit as an expression of solidarity with the party’s candidates.
She acknowledged the role of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and called for continued participation by women in political and governance processes.
Sonayon-James also urged increased mobilisation of young people, saying women could play an important role in connecting government and political organisations with the youth population.
Speaking on behalf of COWLSO, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, assured the APC governorship candidate of the group’s support for voter mobilisation ahead of the election.
She said the organisation would continue to promote grassroots engagement and encourage greater participation of women in the democratic process.
The Director-General of the Lagos APC PBAT/KOH 2027 Campaign Council, Musiliu Obanikoro, said the meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration and strategic engagement ahead of the elections.
Obanikoro described women as important participants in grassroots mobilisation and community engagement, adding that their involvement would be useful in reaching young voters.
He said the campaign would continue to focus on voter mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that COWLSO members displayed placards expressing support for the APC and its candidates during the visit.
