Pope Leo will visit Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from November 6 to 17, travelling about 31,000 kilometres across 10 cities, according to an itinerary announced by the Vatican.
The Pope is scheduled to participate in about 50 events and deliver 36 speeches during the 11-day visit to the three South American countries.
His itinerary includes a meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei, a visit to a federal prison complex in Buenos Aires and the celebration of Mass at a Catholic shrine in Luján, Argentina.
The Pope will also travel to Peru, where he spent decades as a missionary before becoming pontiff and where he holds citizenship.
Among his engagements in Peru will be a dinner with priests in the northwestern city of Chiclayo, where he served as bishop from 2015 to 2023.
Leo is also scheduled to deliver a special address in Lima on the “challenges and hopes for the future of the Peruvian people.”
The November journey will be his fifth international tour outside Italy in 2026 and will mark the first papal visit to South America since Pope Francis travelled to Chile and Peru in 2018.
Leo, originally from Chicago in the United States, has longstanding ties with Peru following his years of missionary and pastoral work in the country.
