Iran’s military has said it is prepared to respond to any renewed attack by the United States or Israel, as tensions in the Middle East remain high amid uncertainty over the next phase of the conflict.
The commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army, Major-General Amir Hatami, said Iranian forces were on heightened alert and ready to defend the country against any aggression.
“We will not hesitate for a moment to defend Iran’s independence, security and territorial integrity,” Hatami said, according to Iranian state media.
He added that Iran’s armed forces had previously defended the country against what he described as enemy aggression and would remain prepared to protect its territory.
The comments came amid growing concerns that the United States could resume military action against Iran following months of conflict and a continuing stalemate.
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he was still considering various options concerning Iran. He mentioned possible military action, increased economic pressure and a negotiated settlement among the alternatives under consideration.
Trump also said he would be willing to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week.
The statements come as diplomatic activity intensifies around the UN General Assembly, with tensions between Washington and Tehran remaining a major issue in discussions over regional security.
Iran has repeatedly warned that it would respond to any military attack, while the United States has continued to signal that several options remain available in dealing with Tehran.
