The Transmission Company of Nigeria has commenced the rehabilitation of four transmission towers damaged by vandals along the Afam–IPP–Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line in Rivers State.
The company disclosed this in a statement issued by its management on Monday, following the discovery of the damage by its engineers from the Port Harcourt Region.
According to TCN, the affected structures are Towers T50 to T53, whose tower members were reportedly dismantled and taken away by vandals.
The company said the damage was discovered on August 6, 2026, during an inspection of the transmission line by its engineering team.
TCN described the incident as the fifth vandalism attack on the same transmission line in recent times, raising concerns over the continued threat posed to electricity infrastructure.
The company said rehabilitation work was already underway to restore the affected towers and strengthen the reliability of the transmission network.
TCN also appealed to stakeholders and residents within communities hosting its facilities to support efforts to protect critical electricity infrastructure and report suspicious activities around transmission installations.
It warned that repeated attacks on transmission facilities could undermine the stability and reliability of the national electricity grid.
The Afam–IPP–Elelenwo transmission line is part of the electricity infrastructure serving the Niger Delta region, linking power generation and distribution networks.
TCN said it would continue to carry out inspections, maintenance and rehabilitation of damaged facilities as part of efforts to improve the reliability of electricity transmission across the country.
