President Bola Tinubu has celebrated First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu on her 66th birthday, describing her as his “truest friend and confidante” and paying tribute to her support through decades of family life, public service and political leadership.
In a birthday message on Monday, the President reflected on their years together, praising his wife for what he described as her patience, courage, faith and willingness to offer honest counsel, particularly during difficult periods.
“Today, I celebrate the woman who has walked beside me with patience, grace and uncommon courage,” Tinubu said.
Quoting a Yoruba proverb, the President added: “Àwọn àgbà sọ pé, ‘Ìyàwó rere ni adé ọkọ rẹ̀.’ A good wife is her husband’s crown.”
Tinubu said the First Lady had shared many of the pressures and uncertainties he encountered over the years and had remained a source of support during challenging moments.
“The burdens that were mine to bear often found their way onto your shoulders. The thoughts I could not put into words somehow found their way to you,” he said.
“In difficult times, when the future was uncertain, you stayed calm beside me and prayed with me.”
‘MY TRUEST FRIEND AND CONFIDANTE’
The President said his relationship with the First Lady extended beyond marriage, describing her as a trusted adviser who was prepared to speak candidly to him.
“I call you my truest friend and confidante because you speak the truth plainly, even on the days I would rather not hear it,” Tinubu said.
He also praised her contribution to their family, saying her faith and values had influenced their children and grandchildren.
“Our home bears the lasting imprint of your devotion. Our children and grandchildren have grown beneath the shelter of your prayers. They carry your values of faith and kindness wherever life takes them,” he said.
TINUBU HIGHLIGHTS FIRST LADY’S HUMANITARIAN WORK
The President also highlighted his wife’s humanitarian and social intervention activities, including her work through the New Era Foundation and, more recently, the Renewed Hope Initiative.
He said the programmes had assisted different groups, including young people, widows, elderly citizens and women involved in agriculture.
“Nigerians know you for your compassion, kindness, generosity of spirit and steadfast faith. I have watched you touch lives quietly and consistently, offering hope and support to those in need,” Tinubu said.
He also referenced her advocacy on health issues, including tuberculosis, and said her humanitarian activities were not restricted by ethnic, regional or religious considerations.
“For you, compassion has never recognised the boundaries of tribe, region or religion,” he said.
‘I WOULD CHOOSE THE SAME ROAD’
Reflecting on their journey together, Tinubu said years of difficult decisions, sacrifices, prayer and shared experiences had strengthened their relationship.
“A long journey teaches a man the true value of a good partner. We have travelled a long road together,” he said.
The President added that if given another opportunity to begin his life again, he would make the same choice.
“If life returned me to the beginning, I would choose the same road that led me to you. Through every mile, my heart has always remained at home with you,” Tinubu said.
He concluded by praying for the First Lady to enjoy more years in good health and happiness.
“Happy 66th birthday, my darling Oluremi. I pray that God Almighty will grant you many more years in good health and joy,” the President said.
