Delivering a keynote address entitled “Digital Media and Governance: Bridging the Gap,” Dr. Umanah described digital media as “the heartbeat of modern governance,” noting its role in transparency, accountability, and real-time engagement with citizens.

He highlighted how Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda is leveraging digital platforms to showcase development strides and deepen public participation.

The Commissioner cautioned against misinformation, urging users to prioritize truth and accuracy: “Don’t let the breaking news break the society.”

Dr. Umanah announced a ₦1 million support donation from the Ministry of Information to aid the successful hosting of the 2025 Social Media Week.

He encouraged young people to maximize digital opportunities, describing them as emerging “digital entrepreneurs.”

COOPA Chancellor, Mr. Utitofon Morgan, celebrated the organisation’s 10-year impact in ethical digital publishing and civic awareness, describing the Social Media Week as COOPA’s gift to the public.

The Uyo Social Media Week continues through Friday with workshops, boardroom sessions, and poolside conversations on digital media, governance, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
