The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Idris Gana Mohammed before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja over an alleged ₦6.85 million transaction involving the purchase of a Toyota Camry.
Mohammed was arraigned on Wednesday, September 16, before Justice A.M. Abdullahi at the Maitama division of the court on a one-count charge bordering on alleged criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence.
The EFCC alleged that between June 10 and 13, 2026, Mohammed received an aggregate sum of ₦6.85 million as payment for a black Toyota Camry from Ampatech Nigeria Limited but dishonestly converted the money to his personal use.
The commission said the alleged offence was contrary to Section 308 of the Penal Code Law of the FCT and punishable under Section 309.
Mohammed pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
Following his plea, prosecuting counsel G.G. Gajere asked the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial.
Defence counsel Ibrahim Jibril informed the court that he had filed and served a bail application on the prosecution. He also made an oral application seeking bail for the defendant.
After hearing submissions from both sides, Justice Abdullahi adjourned the case until September 24, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
The court ordered that Mohammed be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
According to the EFCC, the investigation followed a petition by Mohammed Ahmed Patigi of Ampatech Nigeria Limited, who alleged that the ₦6.85 million was provided for the purchase of the vehicle.
The petitioner alleged that the vehicle was not delivered and the money was not refunded.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and Mohammed is presumed innocent unless and until found guilty.
