Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has disclosed that he has lived in his current residence for 36 years, saying he has no intention of moving because he remains comfortable there.
Dangote made this known during an interview on national television on Tuesday, where he discussed his lifestyle, business interests and views on wealth and investment.
The billionaire said he had remained in the same home for decades and preferred the comfort and familiarity it provided.
According to him, he is not driven by the need to constantly acquire new luxuries despite his wealth.
Dangote also criticised the spending habits of some wealthy Africans who, he said, invest heavily in private jets and other symbols of affluence without committing resources to productive ventures such as manufacturing.
He questioned the economic value of owning aircraft when such individuals had not established factories or businesses capable of contributing to job creation and economic growth.
The businessman said his priority was to channel wealth into productive investments that would support Africa’s industrialisation.
He stressed that building factories and expanding productive capacity would create greater long-term value for the continent than spending primarily on luxury assets.
Dangote further noted that foreign investors were increasingly interested in Africa but needed large-scale investment opportunities capable of absorbing significant amounts of capital.
He expressed optimism that the emergence of major investment projects would encourage more foreign investors and African entrepreneurs to commit resources to the continent’s development.
According to him, Africa’s economic transformation requires a shift in private investment from displays of personal wealth towards productive assets capable of creating jobs, strengthening manufacturing and driving sustainable economic growth.
