The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed former Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen as the interim manager of the Super Falcons ahead of the team’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying fixtures against Comoros.
Eguavoen will take charge of the senior women’s national team while the search for a permanent head coach continues, with the former Nigeria international expected to oversee the team’s preparations for the upcoming qualifiers in October.
The ex-Super Eagles coach will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, the head coach of Nigeria Women’s Football League side Nasarawa Amazons, who brings experience from working with several national women’s teams, including the Falconets.

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa has also been included in the technical crew as goalkeeper coach, while former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf will serve as one of the assistant coaches.
Eguavoen previously guided Nigeria’s men’s senior national team and led the Super Eagles to a bronze medal finish at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Super Falcons, who are 10-time African champions, will begin their Olympic qualifying campaign in the second round against Comoros, with both legs scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and October 13, 2026.
Nigeria received a bye into the second round due to its ranking among the top three teams in the qualifying competition, while Comoros progressed after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.
The Olympic qualification process requires the Super Falcons to overcome four rounds of two-legged knockout matches to secure one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

If Nigeria defeats Comoros, the team will advance to the third round, where it will face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco.
The later stages of the qualifiers will feature other African contenders, including Tunisia, Senegal, Benin Republic, Mali, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Algeria and Burkina Faso, as teams compete for representation at the global tournament.
