Rescue teams in Nepal are continuing a difficult search operation following a devastating glacier collapse that triggered massive floods and mudslides along the Nepal-China border, leaving more than 1,300 people dead and thousands missing.
The disaster has severely damaged roads, bridges and infrastructure, making access to affected communities challenging for emergency responders. Rescue teams have faced additional difficulties because only one main road leads to some of the worst-hit locations, slowing efforts to reach survivors and deliver aid.
The collapse unleashed a destructive wave of ice, rock, mud and debris through Himalayan valleys, destroying communities and cutting off several areas. The Trishuli River valley has been among the hardest-hit regions, with entire settlements buried under layers of debris.
Authorities have focused part of their rescue operations on hydropower tunnels, where hundreds of workers are believed to have been trapped after floodwaters and debris blocked underground facilities. Rescue teams have been working to clear access routes and search for possible survivors.
The challenging terrain, damaged transport links and continued risks of further flooding have complicated rescue efforts. International teams and equipment have also been deployed to support Nepalβs emergency response.
Officials continue to appeal for assistance as search operations continue across affected areas, with families still waiting for information about missing relatives.
