Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, describing it as “a breath of fresh air” and the beginning of a new chapter of unity and progress for the state.
Governor Fubara signed the budget at the Government House in Port Harcourt and expressed gratitude to God, stakeholders and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for the successful passage of the appropriation bill.
The governor particularly commended the lawmakers for their diligence and speed in considering the budget at what he described as a critical period in the state’s history.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its “Rivers First” mantra, assuring residents that the 2026 budget would be implemented with the welfare and development of the people as its central priority.
Fubara also acknowledged the role of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in facilitating the process that culminated in the passage and signing of the budget.
The governor equally thanked his family for their support, stressing that governance is a collective responsibility.
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Major Jack, presented the appropriation bill to the governor for assent.
Jack said the lawmakers passed the budget with the best interests of Rivers State in mind and expressed confidence that it would be implemented as approved for the benefit of residents.
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, also commended Governor Fubara for the provisions contained in the budget.
Amaewhule said the provisions demonstrated the administration’s readiness to deliver the dividends of democracy and improve the welfare of Rivers people.
The 2026 Appropriation Law, titled “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development,” is designed to sustain economic growth, strengthen infrastructure, improve human capital development and expand social investments across Rivers State.
