Nigerian singer Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has said he would prefer to marry early but keep his marriage away from the public.
The 29-year-old singer said he likes the idea of getting married in his 20s and having teenage children by his 40s.
Joeboy stated this during an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, explaining that his views on early marriage were influenced partly by Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson’s comments about wishing he had married earlier.
He said Egbuson’s remarks made him reconsider the benefits of settling down early, despite his reputation as a ladies’ man.
“Marrying early to someone who you genuinely love is going to be cute. Being 40 and having a 16-year-old kid is cute,” Joeboy said.
The singer, however, stressed that marriage should not be driven by age or social expectations but by genuine love and readiness.
“Marriage is not really about whenever it feels cool. If it just feels right to you and you love the person, do it,” he said.
Joeboy added that while he would personally prefer to marry early, he would keep the development private.
“If I get married right now, nobody is going to know. Maybe when I have like three kids, people will now find out that Joeboy has a whole family somewhere,” he said.
