United States President Donald Trump and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan have discussed the latest developments in the Middle East amid heightened tensions in the region.

Sheikh Mohamed received a telephone call from Mr Trump, during which the two leaders reviewed regional developments and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and the United States.

The Emirates News Agency (WAM), the UAE’s state news agency, reported that the discussions also focused on strengthening bilateral ties in pursuit of the two countries’ mutual interests.

The agency did not provide further details on whether the leaders discussed the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Iran.

The telephone conversation comes amid escalating regional tensions and continued concerns over attacks involving Iran and US-linked targets across the Gulf.

During the first six weeks of the conflict, Iran launched hundreds of ballistic and cruise missiles as well as thousands of drones towards targets it described as American assets, with the UAE among the Gulf countries affected by the retaliatory strikes.
