The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference as a “flop,” accusing the association’s leadership of putting politics ahead of issues confronting the legal profession.
Wike made the remarks during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he questioned the legacy and direction of the current NBA leadership.
“Instead of concentrating on issues affecting the NBA, they started playing politics,” he said.
The minister also defended his decision not to support the NBA president, saying he had previously expressed his concerns over the association’s decision to invite a former governor whom he accused of shutting down the courts for nearly two years.
“I will tell the NBA president: What would you say will be your legacy?” Wike asked, questioning the direction of the professional body.
Turning to his stewardship in the Federal Capital Territory, Wike said all projects initiated under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be completed before the administration leaves office.
He challenged critics to compare the Tinubu administration’s record of development in Abuja with those of previous governments.
“In the history of the FCT, no government has done what we have done in Abuja. I challenge anyone to come out,” Wike said.
