The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered items allegedly stolen from a victim at gunpoint.
The suspect was arrested on August 21, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation by police operatives along Mbak Itam.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, operatives intercepted a tricycle with registration number PBT 322 QN, ridden by Wisdom Edet, which allegedly failed to stop when flagged down.
A stolen tricycle recovered by the Police
The tricycle reportedly sped off, prompting the police team to give chase.
During the pursuit, two passengers in the tricycle allegedly jumped out and escaped, while the rider was apprehended.
A search of the tricycle led to the recovery of an HP laptop, a PS4 game player, a torchlight, two face caps, a power bank, a key wallet holder, a pair of eyeglasses, two phone chargers, a white long-sleeved shirt, a nose mask and a long-sleeved jean jacket.
The police said a man identified as Samuel later reported at the station and identified the HP laptop and PS4 game player as his property, alleging that the items were stolen from him during an armed robbery.
He also reportedly identified some of the recovered clothing as similar to those worn by the alleged perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their alertness and professionalism, saying the recovery demonstrated the Command’s determination to deny criminal elements freedom to operate in the state.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious persons and activities to security agencies.
DSP Timfon John said the Command would continue to pursue and bring criminal suspects to justice.
