The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports that it withdrew the list of members of its 2027 presidential campaign council for review.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed the reports as rumours, saying any genuine changes to the list would be formally announced by the party.
Speaking to TheCable on Tuesday, Morka said there was currently no new list to circulate.
“Rumours are not news. When people are carrying rumours, that is not news. There is fake news, and there is real news.”
He added that if the party decided to update the campaign council, the changes would be announced through the appropriate channels.
The APC unveiled its presidential campaign council on Saturday, naming President Bola Tinubu as chairman.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were appointed vice-chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed secretary.
The composition of the council has, however, generated controversy over the inclusion of some serving government officials and individuals who have faced corruption allegations.
Those listed include former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu, former Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund board chairperson Ngozi Olejeme, Nigeria Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji, and Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation Tanimu Yakubu.
Reports had emerged that the APC was reviewing the list following complaints over the inclusion of some names and the omission of prominent party members.
Morka, however, said he was not in a position to address individual complaints from party members who were left out.
The controversy has also attracted criticism from opposition figures.
Former NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso questioned the inclusion of senior public officials in the campaign structure.
Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye also threatened legal action over the appointment of Adedeji to the council.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Christopher Musa and Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, who are both members of the campaign council, described their appointments as a call to greater service.
They also assured Nigerians that their participation in the political process would not disrupt ongoing security operations and reforms.
For now, the APC maintains that the previously announced campaign council list has not been withdrawn, and that any official amendment will be publicly communicated by the party.
