The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has denied reports of an alliance between the party, Governor Alex Otti and the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The state APC chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, made the clarification during a stakeholders’ meeting at the party secretariat in Umuahia.
Chukwu said he had consulted key party stakeholders and confirmed that no agreement or alliance had been reached with Otti or the Labour Party.
He also dismissed reports that the party’s governorship candidate, Eric Opah, and other APC stakeholders were negotiating an alliance with the Labour Party.
According to him, the APC would not ally with a party or administration he accused of poor accountability, alleged contract inflation and policies that had caused hardship for residents.
Chukwu urged APC members to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections and warned candidates against using the party’s tickets to negotiate with other political parties.
He said any future political negotiations by the APC would be based on good governance, accountability, payment of pensions and improved welfare for Abia residents.
The chairman expressed confidence that the APC would win the 2027 elections in the state, stressing that party members would benefit politically only by remaining committed to the APC.
At the meeting, the party also granted unconditional pardon to members facing disciplinary action, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and the member representing Ukwa Federal Constituency, Chris Nkwonta, who had been suspended over alleged anti-party comments.
