The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, warning that eligible Nigerians who have not registered could be excluded from the 2027 general elections.

In a statement jointly signed by the YPP FCT Chairman, Abraham Adedotun, and the party’s FCT senatorial candidate, Blessing Benyeogor, the party said the closure of registration could disenfranchise many citizens, particularly young people who had yet to complete the process.

The party urged INEC to consider concerns raised by political actors and civil society groups and provide another opportunity for eligible Nigerians to be captured on the voters’ register.

YPP also called on the electoral commission to maintain its neutrality and take steps to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.

INEC had earlier closed the CVR exercise on July 26, 2026, and ruled out further extensions, citing the need to focus on preparations for the 2027 elections.

The YPP, however, maintained that extending the registration exercise would promote wider participation and ensure that no eligible Nigerian is left out of the electoral process.
