At least 10 people have been killed in fresh Russian and Ukrainian attacks, a day after a Russian drone strike on a shopping centre in central Ukraine killed at least 16 people and injured about 130 others.

Russian drone and missile attacks killed at least seven people in Ukraine on Saturday, while a Ukrainian drone strike in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region killed three people, according to officials.

The latest escalation came after Russian drones struck a shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Friday.

The death toll from the attack rose to 16 by Saturday, with nine people still missing and about 130 others injured, according to Dnipropetrovsk regional authorities.

Zelenskyy described Friday’s assault as a “double-tap” attack, alleging that an initial wave of drones struck the area before a second wave targeted the location as emergency responders arrived.

The fire reportedly spread across about 9,000 square metres before being extinguished, while rescue workers continued searching for victims.

In the latest attacks, Zelenskyy said one person was killed and another injured after ballistic missiles struck railway infrastructure in Kyiv overnight.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had targeted a locomotive depot in the capital.

Two other people were killed in a separate Russian ballistic missile strike on the Kyiv region surrounding the capital, local authorities said.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian drone attacks killed one person overnight, while a subsequent daytime strike killed three others and injured 15, according to Ukrainian officials.

Three people were also injured when a minibus came under attack in the regional capital, Zaporizhzhia, Zelenskyy said.

In Russia’s Krasnodar region, authorities said three people, including two children, were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack. Two adults were also injured.

Ukraine has increasingly carried out long-range drone attacks against targets inside Russia, including oil facilities and industrial sites.

Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces had struck the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region, about 1,000 kilometres from the front line.

The Russian online outlet Astra also reported that a Ukrainian drone caused a fire at an oil refinery in the Samara region. Local officials confirmed damage at an unidentified industrial facility and a logistics centre belonging to Ozon.

The attacks followed a series of intensified Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukraine in recent weeks.

Kyiv has been particularly affected, with Ukrainian officials saying Russia has stepped up ballistic missile attacks amid a shortage of US-made Patriot air-defence interceptors, which remain Ukraine’s main system capable of intercepting such missiles.

The United Nations said Kyiv was among the Ukrainian cities hardest hit in July, recording at least 54 civilian deaths and 202 injuries.

Kryvyi Rih has also repeatedly come under Russian attack during the war. In April 2025, one of the city’s deadliest strikes killed 20 people, including nine children.
