Akwa Ibom State Government has warned non-governmental organisations and other bodies against falsifying or manipulating data about the state to attract grants, threatening prosecution of offenders under the Akwa Ibom State Statistical Law 2023, as amended.
The State Statistician-General, Mr Uduak Isaac, issued the warning in Uyo during the Humanitarian Stakeholders’ Roundtable 2.0 organised by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to mark the 2026 World Humanitarian Day.
Isaac said organisations conducting surveys or collecting and disseminating statistics relating to the state must obtain written clearance from the Akwa Ibom State Bureau of Statistics.

He specifically cautioned NGOs against presenting fabricated figures on sensitive issues in ways that could negatively portray the state and mislead donors.
“Please don’t fake data that does not represent Akwa Ibom State to secure grants. You will be prosecuted in accordance with the Statistical Law of 2023 of Akwa Ibom State, as amended,” he warned.
The Statistician-General said the state would no longer tolerate the dissemination of inaccurate statistics capable of misrepresenting its development realities.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr Aniekan Umanah, backed the warning, urging organisations seeking grants to desist from creating or concocting data to attract funding.
Umanah also highlighted government interventions in healthcare, education, food distribution, housing and support for vulnerable groups as part of the state’s humanitarian efforts.

He cited free healthcare for pregnant women, children aged zero to five and retirees, as well as N50,000 grants to more than 13,000 elderly citizens, among other interventions.
The roundtable, on the theme “Building Climate-Resilient Communities Through Sustainable Livelihoods,” brought together government officials and humanitarian stakeholders to discuss practical measures for strengthening community resilience, sustainable livelihoods and humanitarian response in the state.
