Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has praised Kylian Mbappe for his commitment and determination as the club prepares for its first season together.
Mbappe, who captained France at the 2026 World Cup, was initially scheduled to return to Real Madrid training on August 14 following the tournament.
However, Mourinho revealed that the France international reported for duty two days earlier than planned because he wanted to be fit enough to feature in the club’s pre-season fixture against Schalke 04.
Mbappe subsequently played in the friendly against the German side and scored the opening goal.
Mourinho said the forward’s decision to return ahead of schedule demonstrated the level of professionalism and commitment he expects from his players.
He said Mbappe could have resumed training on August 14 after the World Cup but instead arrived on August 12 because he wanted to be ready for the Schalke match.
The Real Madrid boss added that he was impressed by the forward’s approach in training, particularly his work rate, commitment and desire to compete.
Mourinho said Mbappe’s attitude was exactly what he wanted to see from a player preparing for a demanding campaign with the Spanish giants.
