Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have threatened to resume their suspended strike on August 28, 2026, if the Oyo State Government and hospital management fail to address their outstanding welfare demands.
The Association of Resident Doctors, in a statement signed by its President, Dr Adedapo Mustapha, and General Secretary, Dr John Stephen, said it suspended its previous industrial action on June 27 to allow eight weeks for the authorities to resolve the issues.
The doctors said several demands remain unresolved, including the full implementation of the Medical Residency Training Fund, payment of the new Professional Allowance, minimum wage arrears and the recruitment of additional resident doctors and other essential medical personnel.
The association also raised concerns over severe manpower shortages at the hospital, saying the limited number of doctors was being subjected to frequent and prolonged call duties.
According to the doctors, the staffing situation could affect patient safety and the quality of healthcare services at the facility.
The ARD appealed to the Oyo State Governor and hospital authorities to intervene before the August 28 deadline, stressing that it preferred dialogue and a peaceful resolution.
However, the association warned that it would resume industrial action if its demands were not addressed, urging the government to take immediate steps to avert another disruption of healthcare services at the teaching hospital.
