The Accord Party in Osun State has accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of allegedly harbouring suspected election hackers in a hotel in Osogbo ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The allegation was made by the Accord State Chairman, Victor Akande, who called on security agencies to investigate the claim and take immediate action.
Akande alleged that the suspected hackers were brought into Osun from Lagos and Abuja to establish an operational centre aimed at compromising the Independent National Electoral Commission’s digital systems and manipulating election results.
He also urged INEC to strengthen its cybersecurity measures ahead of the poll.
However, the Osun APC dismissed the allegation as false and baseless, accusing the Accord Party of spreading rumours out of fear of electoral defeat.
APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said the party did not need to rig the election to secure victory for its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Olabisi challenged the Accord Party to report any suspected hacking operation to the police if it had credible evidence, rather than making what he described as frivolous public allegations.
The exchange comes as political tension mounts in Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with parties trading accusations and urging electoral and security authorities to safeguard the integrity of the poll.
