Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police, have rescued a kidnapped farmer in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The victim, identified as 50-year-old Lucky Egbiki, was abducted from his farm at Okehussan, Ubiaja.

The security forces, acting on intelligence, reportedly used ransom negotiations to lure the kidnappers to a location at Onogholo on August 6, where they engaged the criminals.

One of the suspected kidnappers was neutralised during the encounter, while others fled into the forest, abandoning the victim.

The troops recovered 1.5 million naira reportedly intended as ransom and rescued Egbiki unhurt. He was later handed over to his family after medical assessment.

A follow-up operation conducted in the area yielded no further contact with the fleeing suspects.

The Commander, 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, commended the troops for their courage and professionalism, assuring residents that sustained intelligence-led operations would continue against kidnappers and other criminal elements in the state.
