The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commended the Omelu Community Vigilante for the swift arrest of a man suspected of attempting to vandalise a transmission tower along the Benin–Onitsha 330kV line.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended during a routine patrol after vigilantes found him allegedly tampering with the tower’s base bracing.
He was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

TCN said the suspect had been arrested by members of the same community about two months ago over a similar alleged offence but was later released after appealing for leniency and undergoing medical treatment.
The company urged communities hosting electricity transmission facilities to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities around critical power infrastructure to the appropriate security authorities.
