The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to expel any student found guilty of kidnapping after due investigation.
The directive has generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians calling for prosecution in addition to expulsion, while others questioned whether the order would be effectively enforced.
The Federal Government has directed all tertiary institutions across Nigeria to immediately expel any student found guilty of kîdnåpping or other related Crîmînal activities after due investigation.
The directive was issued by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, who instructed Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts to take a zero-tolerance approach to crîmînalîty on campuses.
He also urged institutions to strengthen internal intelligence gathering and work closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to improve safety for students on and off campus.
According to the minister, the measure is part of efforts to strengthen security across tertiary institutions and ensure campuses remain safe environments for learning.
