The Forum of the 36 States and FCT Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on security agencies to investigate alleged forgery of court judgments and take action against individuals it accused of impersonating the party’s leadership.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the chairmen alleged that a group led by former Attorney-General of Kebbi State, Tanimu Turaki, SAN, had been falsely presenting itself as a faction of the PDP despite what they described as clear judicial pronouncements recognising only one national leadership of the party.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, its Chairman, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, said the group was engaging in acts capable of undermining public peace and the rule of law, insisting that there is only one PDP recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the courts.
The forum urged security and law enforcement agencies to investigate what it described as the “criminal and malicious forgery and distortion of court judgments,” warning that such actions pose a threat to Nigeria’s democratic order.
The PDP chairmen also appealed to former President Goodluck Jonathan to publicly dissociate himself from the alleged use of his name by the group, arguing that his continued silence could be interpreted as endorsement of activities they described as unlawful.
They further called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to order a security review of an office in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, which they alleged was being used to coordinate activities capable of disrupting public peace.
The forum also urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to commence contempt proceedings and other legal actions against those it accused of impersonation, forgery and disobedience of court orders, saying the party must protect its identity and institutional integrity.
The chairmen maintained that the authentic leadership of the PDP remains the National Working Committee headed by Alhaji Abdulraham Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as National Secretary, adding that certified true copies of relevant court judgments would soon be made available to the media to clarify the legal position.
They commended the party’s leadership for conducting what they described as transparent primary elections, successful sale of nomination forms and the submission of candidates’ names to INEC, expressing confidence in the PDP’s preparedness for future electoral contests.
Reaffirming their commitment to the unity of the party, the forum urged PDP members nationwide to remain calm and law-abiding while legal processes continue, insisting that the party remains united and committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
