A suspected electricity cable vandal has been electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalise power infrastructure in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The incident occurred on Saturday along the Ringim-Dutse Road in Sintilmawa village.

A resident told reporters that the suspect was allegedly tampering with an electric cable when power was restored, resulting in his electrocution.

The resident said the man died at the scene and was found with tools believed to have been used in the alleged vandalism.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Jigawa State, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday.

Shiisu said the police received a distress call at about 9am on July 31 reporting that a body had been found lying motionless along the Ringim-Sintilmawa Road.

He said a patrol team from Ringim Division was immediately deployed to the scene, where officers found the body with burns on both hands, the chest and pelvic region.

According to the police, officers also recovered hand gloves, a hacksaw and sacks at the scene.

The items, Shiisu said, indicated that the deceased may have been electrocuted while attempting to vandalise an electricity cable.

He said the body was taken to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed the death.

The police spokesman added that efforts were underway to identify the deceased, while investigation into the incident continued.
