The Nigeria Police Force has congratulated Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel after he won gold in the men’s 400 metres hurdles at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Nathaniel clocked 48.47 seconds in Friday’s final to claim Nigeria’s first gold medal in the event, improving on his sixth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Force spokesperson, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

Reacting to the victory, the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, commended Nathaniel for what he described as an outstanding performance that brought recognition to both the Nigeria Police Force and the country.

The IGP said the athlete had “flown both the national and Force flags high on the international stage,” adding that his achievement should inspire other police personnel.

The Police Force attributed Nathaniel’s success partly to its continued investment in sports development, personnel welfare and capacity building.

According to the statement, the Force has continued to identify and support athletes among its personnel, with sports regarded as an avenue for promoting physical fitness, institutional morale and youth engagement.

The police said officers with exceptional sporting abilities would continue to receive opportunities to compete at national and international levels.

Disu, on behalf of the management, officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, congratulated Nathaniel on the achievement and wished him further success in his athletic career.
