The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a trailer driver and four other suspects over the alleged theft and dismantling of a trailer, uncovering what police described as a criminal syndicate involved in dismantling stolen trailers and selling their parts.
Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspects include the driver, Temitope Omotayo Odulaja, 47, alongside Segun Suleiman, 27, Haruna Olaogun, 49, Jimoh Wasiu, 42, and Quazzim Suleiman, 49.
According to the police, the investigation began after the trailer owner reported at the Ifo Divisional Headquarters that his driver had absconded with the vehicle on June 6, 2026, and all attempts to recover it had failed.
Following an intelligence-led operation, detectives tracked and arrested Odulaja in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on July 24. Information obtained from him led officers to Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where the four other suspects were arrested the following day.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the stolen trailer had been dismantled shortly after it was stolen and its parts sold. Police said they have recovered parts of the trailer, including the trailer head, while photographs of the dismantled vehicle have been taken as evidence.
The command added that investigations uncovered a suspected trailer-dismantling syndicate, with efforts ongoing to recover the remaining parts, identify other members of the network and establish the full extent of its operations.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the detectives for the breakthrough and urged transport operators, logistics companies and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
Police said all suspects found culpable at the end of the investigation will be charged in court.
