The Forum of Vice Chairmen of Local Government Councils in Cross River State has declared its support for Governor Bassey Otu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what it described as the positive impact of ongoing reforms and development initiatives at both the state and federal levels.
The endorsement was made on Friday during a courtesy visit to the Federal Commissioner representing Cross River and Akwa Ibom States at the Federal Civil Service Commission, Barrister Ededet Eyoma, at his office in Calabar.
Leading the delegation, the Chairperson of the forum and Vice Chairman of Bakassi Local Government Area, Hon. Christina Eso, commended the Federal Commissioner for his accessibility and willingness to engage with stakeholders.
She described Eyoma’s appointment as well-deserved, citing his experience in public service, leadership qualities and contributions to human capital development.
“We appreciate your open-door policy and for granting us audience. We have every confidence in your leadership capacity and believe you will deliver effectively in your new national assignment,” she said.
Eso also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu for facilitating Eyoma’s appointment, stating that his emergence reflects the principles of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Cross River State Government’s People First agenda.
According to her, the Commissioner’s experience and people-oriented approach position him to make meaningful contributions to the Federal Civil Service Commission while creating opportunities for qualified citizens from Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
Also speaking, the Forum’s Welfare Chairman and Vice Chairman of Biase Local Government Area, Hon. (Chief) Ekuma Ngwu, JP, said the visit was intended to congratulate the Federal Commissioner on his appointment and offer prayers for a successful tenure.
Ngwu reaffirmed the forum’s support for Governor Otu’s administration and President Tinubu’s economic and governance reforms, expressing optimism that sustained collaboration between the federal and state governments would translate into greater development and improved living standards for the people.
Responding, Barrister Eyoma thanked the delegation for the visit and described it as a demonstration of solidarity and confidence in his ability to serve.
He pledged to work closely with relevant institutions and stakeholders, including local government officials, to ensure the effective discharge of his responsibilities as Federal Commissioner.
Eyoma also urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration, noting that while ongoing economic reforms may require patience, they are designed to stabilise the economy and lay the foundation for sustainable national development.
“The President is working to stabilise the economy and expand development across the country. The Renewed Hope Agenda is aimed at repositioning Nigeria for long-term growth, and I believe its benefits will continue to become more evident with time,” he said.
The Federal Commissioner further assured the delegation that his office would remain inclusive and transparent, promising to ensure that qualified indigenes of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states have access to available opportunities within the Federal Civil Service in accordance with established procedures and merit.
The visit featured goodwill messages and a renewed commitment by both the forum and the Federal Commissioner to promote collaboration in support of governance and development initiatives in the two states.
