The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Sector Command, has recorded 352 traffic offences during a three-day special enforcement operation codenamed “Operation Shark Smile.”
The exercise, conducted simultaneously across the Sector and Unit Commands in Rivers State from July 20 to 22, 2026, was aimed at improving compliance with traffic regulations, strengthening enforcement and reducing road traffic crashes.
Speaking during the event, the Rivers State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Francis A. Ajatta, said the operation focused on identifying and correcting dangerous traffic violations while intensifying public enlightenment on responsible road use and promoting a culture of road safety.
According to the FRSC, 282 motorists were apprehended during the operation for committing 352 traffic offences.
The Command disclosed that seat belt violations accounted for the highest number of offences recorded during the exercise.
Other major violations included overloading, route violations popularly known as one-way driving, number plate offences, driver’s licence violations and tyre-related offences.
Ajatta expressed concern over the increasing number of motorists violating traffic regulations, particularly driving against traffic, describing the trend as a serious threat to road safety.
He warned that the Corps would continue to enforce traffic laws and would not tolerate practices that endanger the lives of road users.
The Sector Commander appealed to motorists and other road users in Rivers State to obey traffic regulations at all times and cooperate with FRSC personnel in the collective effort to reduce crashes and make the state’s roads and the nation’s highways safer for all.
