Nigeria has dropped one place on the latest Henley Passport Index, falling to 90th position in the July 2026 global passport rankings.
According to the report released by Henley & Partners, Nigerian passport holders can currently travel to 44 destinations without obtaining a visa in advance. Although the country’s visa-free access remains unchanged, its global ranking slipped from 89th in the April 2026 edition to 90th.
Henley & Partners said the index, published to mark its 20th anniversary, ranks 199 passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa, using data from the International Air Transport Association.
Within Africa, South Africa retained the continent’s strongest passport, ranking 49th globally with visa-free access to 101 destinations. Botswana followed in 61st place with access to 81 destinations, while Morocco ranked 67th with 71 destinations. Kenya placed 68th with access to 70 destinations, and Ghana ranked 70th with visa-free access to 67 destinations.
Nigeria now shares the 90th position with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Turkmenistan, with each country’s passport providing visa-free access to 44 destinations.
