The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), has resigned from office, describing the speculation as false.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the Defence Minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities and continues to focus on strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Onanuga reaffirmed that Musa is actively carrying out his duties and overseeing the implementation of the country’s defence strategy.
According to him, the minister remains dedicated to his national security mandate, adding that the government’s security efforts are already producing visible results.
The Presidency’s clarification comes amid widespread rumours suggesting that Musa had stepped down from his position.
Earlier, the Defence Minister also dismissed the reports as baseless and misleading.
Speaking to State House correspondents after briefing President Tinubu on the country’s security situation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, Musa said he had never discussed resigning from office with anyone.
He also warned that legal action would be taken against individuals or groups responsible for spreading the false reports.
President Bola Tinubu appointed the former Chief of Defence Staff as Minister of Defence in December 2025, following the resignation of his predecessor, Mohammed Abubakar.
The Presidency has urged the public to disregard the resignation rumours, insisting that Musa remains in office and continues to lead efforts to improve national security.
