The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has dismissed a ₦506.5 million fundamental rights enforcement suit filed against the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) by Mr Olamide Peter Ojo.
Delivering judgment, Justice P. I. Ajoku held that the applicant failed to provide credible evidence to support his claims that FRSC officers violated his fundamental rights, describing the suit as lacking merit.

According to a statement by the Rivers State Sector Public Education Officer, Chief Route Commander Doris Ebor, the case stemmed from an incident on June 20, 2023, at the FRSC Drivers’ Licence Centre along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
The court found that the applicant obstructed access to the licence centre and allegedly assaulted two FRSC personnel after being directed to clear the passageway.
Justice Ajoku also ruled that there was no evidence to support allegations that FRSC officials assaulted or tortured the applicant. Instead, the court upheld the officers’ conduct as lawful, professional and consistent with their statutory responsibilities.
The applicant had sought ₦506.5 million in damages against the FRSC and other respondents, but all reliefs sought were dismissed.

Reacting to the judgment, the Rivers State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Francis Ajatta, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to professionalism, fairness, respect for human rights and the safety of all road users.
He also cautioned members of the public against obstructing lawful enforcement operations or making false allegations against officers carrying out their official duties.
